Day #6 - Polynesian Culture Center - Dad

Lots of yelling and screaming and not by our group.

Today we started our day by visiting the University of Hawaii.  With the campus being halfway across the world, I would have thought Jake would have been interested in it.  However, he stuck to his same attitude of, "I have no interest in talking about college."  We simply went to the book store and when we offered to purchase the boys University of Hawaii apparel, they both said - "No."  Jake is going to end up at BCC because he will not fill out the college applications in time and Luke will be out of the house at Princeton at age 16.  It was a nice campus, but I would have expected more from University of Hawaii.

On our way to the Polynesian Cultural Center, we had to stop at our original Shave Ice location.  Many tried to add ice cream and condensed milk and it was good.  By now they know us by name and are ready to give us a discount. It was a fun stop and the best lunch anyone could have.

We went to the Polynesian Cultural Center.  We started with a Ukulele lesson.  I took the paper so I can play some of the songs.  The only thing missing is an actual ukulele to play "You are my Sunshine" and the "Lava Song".  Next up we watched the canoe parade which reminded me of the Sesame Street parade.  It started to rain and we were a bit worried about the day.  However we went to two different islands with the sows.  The Samoan show was awesome where we saw a person climb a tree, use a variety of different coconut parts for eating and basket weaving with the leaves.  In between the shows, we tried a variety of Polynesian games of skill - Balls of strings, stick spinning, fire starting and baton twirling.  There was no doubt that I was the most skilled in all areas.   Not everyone would agree, but it is because they are simply jealous.

We also took a canoe ride throughout the park.  Dinner was great.  We had the option to upgrade to a Polynesian dinner or stick with the American dinner.  If you know us at all, you know that we choose the American dinner and ate a ton.  We thoroughly enjoyed the buffet with fresh pineapple.  I ate waaaaay too much.  I worked hard to lose weight for this trip and might have put it all back on at one sitting.

Next up was the HA! Show.  It was great - so I am told because I fell asleep again during the show.

Lats night in O'Hau ended with us relaxing in the hotel room.  By relaxing, I mean Luke and I going to bed early.
